Each year the world organization operating under the name of Environmental Working Group (EWG) publishes a list of fruits and vegetables that contain the most and least pesticides.
For 50 years at the top of this grocery list apples are sweeping the first place, because usually they are sprayed before and after harvesting, to stay fresh for longer time.
Second year in a row on the list “cleanest” food is avocado, where pesticides have been found on a total of one percent of the tested samples.
The average potato had more pesticides by weight than any other produce. In the average sweet bell pepper they found 15 kinds of pesticides, in the samples which are out of the season, while “Cherry” tomatoes, peach “Nectarine”, peas and apples contain about 13 different types of pesticides .
